PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING:

• No use of Accutane/Isotretinoin within the last 6 months.
• If you have active acne/breakouts, your appointment will have to be rescheduled until it is under control.
• Avoid retinoids, topical antibiotics, exfoliants, hydroquinone, sunburn, and benzoyl peroxide 3-5 days prior to your appointment.
• No IPL/Laser procedures 7-14 days prior to treatment.
• No waxing, depilatory creams (i.e. Nair, etc.), or electrolysis treatments 7 days prior to treatment.
• No shaving on the day of the procedure, please do this at least 24 hours prior.
• Patients on blood thinners should avoid taking them if given doctor approval or may not be eligible for treatment.
• No significant changes in the skin including breakdown of skin, excess dryness, or sunburn.
• No fillers or Botox/toxin treatments for 1 week PRIOR to a SkinPen Elite treatment.
• Please make sure your skin is clean, without lotion, oil, makeup, deodorant, powder, perfume or sunscreen. The exception is if you were pre-given numbing cream. If you were, please apply it 20-30 min before arriving.
• If you have a history of cold sores, please notify us before your treatment so we can prescribe antiviral agents for you to start taking prior to the day of your treatment.

POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING:

• For 24 hours post treatment, do not apply anything to the skin (including water) unless advised by your provider. Products safe to apply are:
  
  • Lift HG Glide Gel (if you had any left over, you may reapply with clean hands over the next 24 hours when skin feels itchy or dry).
  • The provided biocellulose masque before bed or when skin feels uncomfortable.
  • If you added on a booster like growth factors and were given left overs, it’s best apply WITHIN the first 24 hours. 

• Do not use anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for pain relief. In the rare event you experience pain that necessitates relief, please use Tylenol for any residual discomfort. These anti-inflammatory medications will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is crucial to achieving skin rejuvenation with microneedling.

• Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. When exposed to sun, always use sunscreen (24 hours post treatment, AM only) SPF 30 or above and reapply every 2 hours. Do not have prolonged, direct sun exposure for at least 10 days after your treatment. 
• You may use mineral-based makeup after 24 hours; please wait 7 days before using any heavier make up varieties.
• Avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 72 hours due to healing microchannels in your skin.
• Treat skin gently. Wash with a gentle cleanser, cool water, using clean hands only, and pat dry, after 24 hours after passed since treatment.
• You may use cool compresses for excessive discomfort, burning, redness, or swelling.
• Resume your regular skin care regimen 48 hours after treatment and Retin A can be applied 72 hours after treatment
• We recommend repeating your treatment in 4-6 weeks, and for best results a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

SKINCARE INSTRUCTIONS:

Day/Night Of Treatment:

• • If you were treated with VAMP, Exosomes, or Growth factors, and were given left overs, you may reapply over the next 24 hours with CLEAN hands. You may also apply the Lift HG Glide gel if any was left over. We recommend to do the booster then the gel.
    • If you were given a biocellulose masque, you may apply it at anytime for 10-15 minutes then discard. 
  • Make sure to avoid touching the face. Do not wash face or get water on the face for 24 hours. 

• • On the day after your procedure, you may clean your face with a gentle cleanser and may apply a light moisturizer. If you were given the Rescue Calming Cream, you may apply this after 24 hours have passed since your treatment. This may be used in place of a moisturizer.
  • Stay away from exfoliants or glycolic acids typically present in cleansers, as these exfoliants can make your skin very dry.
  • Be sure to use an approved SPF 30 or greater sunscreen (mineral based) every day and reapply every 2 hours during prolonged exposure to sunlight. It’s best to avoid prolonged sun exposure for at least one week.

Day 2-6:

• • Within two (2) days following your SkinPen Elite treatment, you will notice skin dryness and flaking due to an increased turnover of skin cells. During this period, you may apply your regular skin moisturizer or continue with the rescue cream if you were given it. Your skin may also start flaking. These flakes are skin cells that would regularly shed every week, but microneedling brings these skin cells to the surface sooner; during this temporary process, your skin will shed and be more dry than normal. You may use your regular skin care products, once your skin is not irritated, typically after 48 hours. We still advise to avoid irritating products like vitamin c, retinol, or exfoliating acids for at least 1 week.

Days 7+:

• •  A week after microneedling treatment(s), most patients notice that their skin is smoother and more radiant. Continue with sun protection every day, and reapply every 2 hours while exposed to sunlight.
