Filler Pre & Post Care

Pre- & Post-Care:

Fillers

Dermal Fillers are used to restore loss volume, smooth out lines/wrinkles, and bring balance/harmony to the facial structure.

PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLER:
  • Dermal fillers must not be administered if you have had any vaccines, immunizations, procedures, illnesses, or dental work in the past two weeks and for an additional two weeks after fillers.
  • Schedule your injection appointment at a time when minor swelling or bruising will not disrupt your social obligations (don’t book near any events, reactions can vary each time you get treat so just because you didn’t swell/bruise one time doesn’t mean it can’t still happen!)
  • Avoid heavy exercise the day of your treatment.
  • Do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of the ingredients, suffer from any neurological or autoimmune disorders, are experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms, or have any active inflammatory processes (cysts, pimples, rashes, hives).
  • For optimal results, and to minimize the chance of bleeding or bruising at the injection site, please avoid:
    • All blood-thinning medications and supplements for one week prior to your appointment if not medically necessary. This includes over-the-counter medication such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Also avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginko biloba, St. John’s Wort and omega-3 capsules. If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your doctor prior to stopping use of aspirin.
    • Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before or after your treatment to avoid extra bruising.
  • Inform your provider if you have a history of Perioral Herpes/cold sores to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment. (Valacyclovir, 1gm, 5 days, start 1-2 days prior to treatment).
  • Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A) retinols, retinoids, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or any “anti-aging” products for two days before and after treatment.
  • Any injection introduces the risk for infection. For this reason, the following is taken into consideration when proceeding with injections. We may delay injectables if you:
    • Have had any infection, cold, virus, or flu in the past 30 days.
    • Have had any dental procedures in the past 30 days or are anticipating dental procedures or cleanings in the next 30 days.
    • Have had a surgical procedure in the past 30 days or are anticipating a surgery or procedure.
    • Have had any immunizations in the past 30 days or if you’re anticipating immunizations.
    • Have had any tattooing or permanent makeup within the past 30 days.
    • Take any immunosuppressive/injectable medications (ex: Biologics such as Humira, Skyrizi, Stelara, Enbrel, Taltz, Cosentyx, Tremfya).
    • Extremely dry or cracked lips (lip filler)
    • Skin lesions/open wounds or cuts
WHAT TO EXPECT POST-TREATMENT FOR FILLER:
  • Swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness, and areas of firm nodules may occur. Wait 2 weeks for ALL swelling to go down and schedule a follow up if needed.
  • Cosmetic fillers are long lasting, but not permanent. Longevity depends on the areas treated and your body’s metabolism.
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLER:
  • DO NOT apply anything to the skin for 24 hours.
  • DO NOT massage, touch, or manipulate the injection site unless instructed.
  • DO NOT drink alcohol, smoke, exercise, for 24 hours (additionally, do not sip through straws or kiss 24 hours post lip filler).
  • Avoid the following:
    • facials or massages for 2 weeks.
    • heavy exercise the day of your treatment.
    • hot tubs or saunas for 2 weeks.
    • dental work for 30 days after treatment
    • sleeping on your side or stomach for 24 hours post treatment to prevent movement of the filler. We recommend you sleep elevated on your back and use pillows to stabilize yourself.
    • Advil, Aspirin, or Ibuprofen for 1 week if not medically necessary (you MAY take Tylenol for pain).
  • Ice packs may be used to the treated area during the first 12 hours. Ice for 15 minutes on every hour.
  • You may take acetaminophen/Tylenol if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort.
  • If experiencing swelling, sleep with head elevated for 2-3 days to decrease swelling.
  • If you experience bruising, eating lots of fresh pineapple or taking Arnica Montana natural supplement can be taken to help bruising to resolve at a faster rate.
  • Stay hydrated, hyaluronic acid filler draws in moisture so staying hydrated keeps your fillers looking the best.
  • Be patient, full results take 2 weeks!
